Shaun Matthews is a Wellington-based photographic artist whose work has engaged with New Zealand’s native forests since moving to New Zealand from the UK in 2002 where he had previously worked in professional photographic labs. Shaun completed a Bachelor of Design in Photography (1st class Hons) at Massey University in 2013. He has been running his own horticultural business for the last 14 years, and working part time as a photographer since finishing his degree. Currently he is house photographer for the Adam, Enjoy Public Art Galleries and Dowse Art Museum in Wellington.
As a photographer his primary interests lie in landscape and fauna, engaging with New Zealand’s forests and nature as essential living and changing sites. I am fascinated by nature’s ability to create a chaotic yet delicate balancing act within its own networks continually regenerating and renewing itself.
